Forbidden Root Brewery

Located in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, Forbidden Root is the city's first botanical brewery. The interior space design beautifully celebrates the brewery’s use of botanical herbs from around the world, with thoughtful details that remind patrons that all ingredients are sourced from the earth. Originally built in 1913 as the HUB Theatre, the space gives a nod to its rich history with a majestic, vaulted ceiling and the original tiled floor at the entrance. Every detail of the space has been curated to create a warm, inviting venue for people to gather and enjoy their time together.

Uplit jars of herbal ingredients line the back wall, adding a natural glow that enhances the warm and inviting ambiance. Nearby, a paneled botanical print wall leads guests to the restroom, carrying the organic theme throughout the space.

Sitting beneath the custom cultivator wheel light installation, guests are reminded of Forbidden Root's earth-inspired ethos.

Rough-hewn panels contrast against the plaster ceiling, while the patina of the zinc bar top gives the space a lived-in, cozy feel.
